Biography
| Demi's father left her mother Victoria before Demi was born and after just two months of being married. Her stepfather, Danny Guynes couldn't have added much stability to her life either as he frequently changed jobs and caused the family to move a total of 40 times. Her parents kept on drinking, arguing and beating, until her stepfather finally committed suicide. Demi quit school at the age of 16 to work as a pin-up-girl and at age 18 she married rock musician Freddie Moore and their marriage lasted for four years. At 19, she became a regular on the TV show "General Hospital" (1963)and started partying and sniffing cocaine, a routine which lasted for three years and ended when director Joel Schumacher fired her from the set of St. Elmo's Fire (1985) because she turned up high. She went for withdrawal treatment and returned clean after a week and stayed clean thereafter. With a lot of determination and a great skill for publicity stunts, like when she appeared nude on the cover of Vanity Fair whilst pregnant she made her way back to fame. Following the huge commercial success of Ghost (1990) and the controversial movies "Indecent Proposal" (1993) and "Disclosure" (1994) she became one of Hollywood's most sought after and highly paid actresses. |
